When is the 2020 United States presidential election?
The 2020 United States presidential election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2020. It will be the 59th quadrennial presidential election. Voters will select presidential electors who in turn on December 14, 2020, will either elect a new president and vice president or re-elect the incumbents.
How does voting work?
Before the general election, most candidates for president go through a series of state primaries and caucuses. Though primaries and caucuses are run differently, they both serve the same purpose. They let the states choose the major political parties’ nominees for the general election.
Why should I vote?
As individuals, we each have very little control over what happens to other people or the world around us on a daily basis. But that's why casting our ballots is so crucial. Voting is an important right in our democracy because it gives us some collective say in how we want to be governed and who gets to make the big decisions that affect our society. Voting expands your personal sphere of control.
